The market of animated films is expected to grow by sixty percent in the next nine years. This cultural segment undoubtedly constitutes an important culture, interpretational platform and visual environment in the life of the younger (and older) generations. Animated works have been an indispensable part of media for decades, and their significance is expected to further increase in the future. This series of talks investigates the critical importance of media awareness with its challenges and opportunities as understood within the area of animation, discussing the special challenges it involves and the general lessons we can learn from it at the same time. The conference is organized by Kecskemétfilm, the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) and the Alliance of Libraries and Information Institutes, and co-organized by Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), the Hungarian Academy of Arts Research Institute of Art Theory and Methodology (MMA MMKI), and the NMHH Media Institute.
At the conference, the audience can also learn more about the Library Cinema. The concept of the Library Cinema was born from a broad cooperation in October 2015. By now, many know across the country that it is a meaningful library service needed by many smaller communities, where there is no cinema, but libraries are becoming increasingly modern and popular.
Today, the signal of the Library Cinema can be heard in hundreds of communities, inviting the locals to see excellent works of art. These community events also help personal development through the conversations, encounters and games connected to the films watched during the occasions.
These activities provide an excellent opportunity for learning and for processing new information properly. The film experience serves an emotional base for improving internal visual interpretation and one’s own imagination, for recognizing connections, and this in turn lays the foundations for developing the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for conscious media consumption.
At Library Cinema events, the audience can participate in age-appropriate activities that support learning outside school in a playful way strengthening verbal comprehension, cognitive and social competencies, interdisciplinary development, talent development and catching up with one’s peer, with all these improving one of the key competencies of the 21th century, conscious and safe media consumption, while having a fun time.
