The work Béla Ternovszky has done in animation for about half a century played an important role in the development of 20th century Hungarian popular culture. Working with screenwriter József Nepp, he created well-known and still popular cartoon series such as The Mézga Family, Next, Please!, or Gustav. Ternovszky directed Cat City, a cult piece of Hungarian film history, a feature animated film mixing genre parody with the grotesque-satirical humour also applied in the artist’s animated series and internationally successful shorts (Modern Training Methods, Let’s Keep a Dog!, Mindennek van határa). The book guides the reader through the oeuvre of Béla Ternovszky, presenting his shorts, series and feature animated films in detail, including true curiosities in its rich visual content, such as character designs and excerpts of the storyboards prepared for the films.
