Filmtett Workshop is one of the most important ongoing projects of Filmtett Association, active since 2000.
The Cluj-based organization’s main activity is running the Transylvanian Film Portal Filmtett (filmtett.ro), but every year it also organizes the summer filmmaking camp called Filmtett Workshop and the fall Filmtettfest Film Festival. In recent years, the association has run several other small projects ranging from film history competitions to film critic workshops, occasionally publishing speciality books, documentaries and even web series. Since 2013, they are the co-organizers the Hungarian Day of the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) and since 2016 they have been distributing Hungarian films in Romanian cinemas.
The filmmaking workshop was established in the summer of 2002 with the aim of providing a substitute for formal university training. For years, the two-time Palme d'Or-winning Duna Workshop and its manager, producer György Durst, have been loyal partners of Filmtett. The camp provides an opportunity for young talents to deepen their knowledge in various areas of filmmaking by forming professional groups.
The nature of the camp has changed over the years: it is both a talent search and a training workshop; the aim is to transfer and expand professional knowledge, to make films that can be shown at festivals, and at the same time to build professional (and friendly) relationships between young campers in the hope of future collaborations.
Through the years more than 700 young people have taken part in the training, which has been organized 18 times since 2002; and more than 250 short films–live-action fiction, animation, experimental and documentaries–have been produced.
