Lajos Csákovics was born in 1974. He is an animation designer, teacher of visual and environmental culture, and literary translator. He completed his studies at the Kaposvár Secondary School of Applied Arts and then at the Hungarian University of Applied Arts (today: MOME).

He currently works as a freelancer.

Csákovics’s first major work as an animator was the feature film Cat City 2 (Béla Ternovszky, 2007), for which he did script drawing and character design and also served as animation director. Between 2009 and 2012, he gained experience in the 3D and 2D animation studios Slitscan Images/Jetbox Media and Angel Animation LLC.

Csákovics was the character designer and animation supervisor for Milorad Krstic’s 2018 Oscar-nominated film Ruben Brandt, the Collector, which was selected as one of the 25 best feature animation films.

Csákovics’s most recent work is the 12-part adaptation of János Arany’s epic poem Toldi (2021), for which he served as supervisory director, and he worked as codirector with Marcell Jankovics on the 2022 version for cinema.

In addition to his work in animated film production, Csákovics has served as an illustrator on several projects, most notably The Mézga Family and The Adventures of Aladár Mézga for Móra Publishing House, a language booklet for the Balassi Institute, and the publications done for a children’s production by the Erkel Theatre. The Hungarian State Opera House and opera companies in other towns and cities in Hungary have performed several productions with his Hungarian texts.

Since 2001, Csákovics has been teaching on and off in secondary schools (motion design, key-phase drawing), and he has also taught as a lecturer at the Department of Animation at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.
